Calque is currently and perpetually seeking work in the following categories:

Literary Translations of stories, poems, manifestos, diaries, comics, lectures, etc. From any time period, any language, by any author. We offer space for translators to publish the original material alongside their translations, if they wish to do so, and if the media allows. Translation submissions MUST be accompanied by a translator's introduction, 1000-1500 words, detailing relevant information pertaining to the work translated, the author, or the process of translation itself.

Interviews
with authors, translators, critics, or publishers of translations.

Book Reviews of translations or books on the subject of translation, either recently published or forthcoming. Our editorial demands for book reviews are highly specific, and specifically non-standard. Please read a copy of the magazine before proposing a book review.

For Calque Vol. 2, we are especially interested in receiving samizdat: translations of repressed literature, to be published in a special supplementary issue in the Winter, 2008. We seek work that, in its home country, was repressed or deformed by government censors, or by exclusive or elitist "official culture," to quote the poet. The ubiquity of fascism and popularity of elitism qualify any country's underground literature as samizdat.

In 2008, we also want to publish chapbooks-in-translation. Chapbooks will feature the work of a single poet or prose writer. Chapbook submission requirements: Translator's Introduction at least 2,500 words long, and 10-12 poems and their translations or 3 stories and their translations. We want to build chapbooks that elaborate the dynamic relationships translators have with their material. To this end, we also seek interviews between the translator and writer, prefaces to the collections by the writer or by critics familiar with both the writer and translator, translations of
previously published essays about the writer, etc.
